AIAA RMS Professional Development Series: Introduction: MBSE Training
Time & Location
About The Event
As Model-Based Ssytems Engineering (MBSE) methods and practices become more pervasive, many organizations greet these methods with excited trepidation. The application of MBSE can bring powerful insights and efficiencies to development initiatives. It is also daunting. There are both technical and cultural barriers that the organization must overcome to successfully adopt and implement MBSE methods. How we introduce and deploy MBSE has a profound, lasting impact on how these methods will be received and perceived. Engineers often find themselves balancing standards and regulations against state-of-the art methodologies and systems engineering best practices. This presentation explores the similarities among MBSE and traditional systems engineering. We will begin with a discussion of the components of the SysML language key to enabling effective, efficient design processes. We will then explore a set of case studies that address the use of MBSE and SysML in developing processes, describing design details, and managing change. You’ll leave this hands-on seminar with a set of foundational tools that you can deploy immediately on the job and an understanding of how to deploy them.
Casey Medina, CSEP - Casey teaches model-based systems engineering (MBSE) to practicing professionals. He practices systems engineering across industries and has developed products in the areas of automated stem cell growth, patient monitoring, pulse-oximetry, blood collections, therapeutics, and electrosurgery. Casey holds multiple patents in the medical device sector. Professionally, he is focused on developing the art of systems engineering in a manner that fosters adoption and acceptance by organizations resistant to change. He currently applies systems engineering practices and principles to enable rapid medical device development and is working to enhance the use of MBSE as an enabler for usability and human factors analyses. Casey has authored and presented multiple papers has been an invited speaker for organizations across industries.
