Colorado State University Students Successfully Present Their Research at AIAA Aviation 2025

Colorado State University's Aerospace Propulsion and Diagnostics Laboratory (APDL) https://www.engr.colostate.edu/laboratories/apdl/ was well represented at the AIAA Aviation 2025 conference, held in Las Vegas, NV, from July 21 to 25, 2025.

The group included:


  • Mozhdeh Hooshyar, a third-year Ph.D. student, who presented her research on modeling femtosecond plasma filamentation for plasma-assisted combustion applications in aero engines(link to paper: https://arc.aiaa.org/doi/abs/10.2514/6.2025-3881 )

  • Riley Duffens, a second-year M.S. student, who showcased his experimental work on the development and validation of a solid fuel ramjet testing facility- a first in the state of Colorado(link to paper: https://arc.aiaa.org/doi/abs/10.2514/6.2025-3619)


Both students were accompanied by their academic advisor, Dr. Ciprian Dumitrache, Assistant Professor in CSU’s Mechanical Engineering Department and Director of the Aerospace Propulsion and Diagnostics Lab.

Their presentations reflected the high level of research and innovation taking place at CSU, highlighting the lab’s ongoing contributions to aerospace propulsion and diagnostics.
